I heard the news from the radio. It must have been fresh. It must have been a fun story to tell,I am eating while I listen to the news.It ran to the airwaves, until I almost realize that it also ran to my nerves. She is a Filipina like me.
Well, she must be older and I am still a student, moreover,I am still in the country that she left. The food in front of me,it is delightfully lavishing. It does. She is like my father. They have the same passion in their career. But one thing is sure,my father is not like her who already fulfilled her dream to be in the place where they called, "milk and honey" while my father still worked in the "land of the orient". She must have been lucky, for she cooked for the most powerful leader today. She experience to be in the most expensive palace. While, like my father and the rest of his co-workers do cook in the government with so many hooks and curves.
I am talking to Pinay White House Chef Cristeta Comerford who recently bagged the award from the long-running cooking show- The Iron Chef America. Our family used to be a fan of that show. Especially , our father who used to be the man of the hour whenever the show is running. As the day passed by, our country used to incorporate the show. But I guess it didn't click instead. There are various cooking show in our country. From different walks of life, we do have our own version do's and that's , the especially of this cuisine and the other.
In addition , this Chef must be loved by the palace . For she cooked the healthy food. And thus, the idea that some of the Americans are lazy in this field made me think again. If there were no resident cook Filipina or Filipina there ,I must agree that they would not come up with the idea of our most requested foods or cuisine.
The challenge by the First Lady Michelle Obama, catched the attention of the public. And the test is to dig out the fresh vegetables by themselves. A very healthy start.
For their winning menu, Comerford and Flay created “a fennel and apple salad with oyster, another salad with lobster and squid, a Filipino-inspired broccoli clam chowder, a barbecue veggie dish, and a meringue sweet potato tart. Flay said, ‘I told her don’t be afraid to use her Filipino background, which have a lot of flavors there,’" according to ABS-CBN News. According to the news.
Chef Comerford is the White House’s first Asian-American and first female Executive Chef, a position which she has held since 2005. She is a Food Technology graduate of UP and grew up in Sampaloc, Manila.
My point, there were opportunities that knocked to us. And with Chef Comerford, she must have been in the long run in the battle. For the very firs news that reigns in our country. This time a triumph that we must be proud of for she make and cooked it hard with various ingredient just to be heard to the country she's into. And her secret ingredient? yes, she is a Filipino.
