Our university served as its event for the unveiling of Major Binay’s giant photo mosaic. We all students were proud. Maybe some were not. Indeed, we o feel star struck. It happened last November 27, 2009. The rumors were true, there are no classes.
The very precious oval-track had been its place. All the students wore their PE uniforms. The entrance gate was very crowded. And yes, there were also those ever loyal supporters from different walks of life.
For the sake of the event, half of our class attended. Some stayed home and take this as an opportunity to rest. Students shared those memorable histories under the heat of the sun. We saw those authorities that take time to deliver their speeches. Some students even performed to entertain the crowd. The power of students participation was there to support the Philippine entry to the Guinness World Record as the biggest photo mosaic.
The 32, 000 square foot photo mosaic that measures 9, 625 square feet, as they said, beat out billboards and streamers of politicians eyeing posts in 2010. All of us even agreed that for the sake of campaigning, this photo mosaic had been made. But
on the contrary Major quickly aid that the tarpaulin was a gift from a private company to pay pride to his work as Makati’s chief local executive for almost 20 years. And yes, he has his point.
The considered biggest billboard in the country hides its costs. All of us were shocked how big it was! We cannot imagine how many pictures had been shared just to finish it. Weeks passed, and in our building, there you can see the tarpaulin rolled. It hanged there and how about the precious gift? Is it forgotten? Some students did not know that their seeing and passing was the photo mosaic of their dear Mayor.
