Treasure Your Kidneys

I have read an article about it and I almost agreed. With its headline entitled, “Selling Organs Kills More Poor Pinoys Donate Advocates Say”. Whereas, organ donation advocates have aired this appeal to Filipinos, who for the sake of survival, plans to sell their kidneys.

According to the observation last November 12, during the country’s First Organ Donation and Transplantation Summit at Innotech QC, more and more Pinoys in need of life-saving organ transplant are succumbing due to the lack of available deceased donors. Wherein, rampant organ trafficking, particularly of kidneys has contributed significantly to this shortage.

Moreover, some would agree to have a living donor to donate his/her kidneys rather have it from a deceased donor. As they acclaimed, naghihingalo na nga kukuhaan pa ng kidney (loosely translated of adding insult to injury) But Dr. Vicente V. Tanseco, chair of IPOD (Integrated Program on Organ Donation) clarified that deceased donors are biologically dead but not deemed clinically dead as they are still on a life support system. I agreed when he says, the patient feels no pain and suffering. Wherein, the living donor would suffer from.

Thus, this social-problem calls the attention of everyone. The higher authority needs to watch over our fellowman that seemed to practice donating organ as a routine. Somehow, to prevent commercial trafficking in organs and overcome the organ shortage. Also to encourage the promotion of deceased organ donation. Hence, organ donation is a life-saving and heroic act but there is still much to be done before stepping in to this one. That is why, instead of donating that organ and suffer from inconsistency of living; why not just take good care of it. Reserved that organ and donate it when we are dead. Setting a good example to everyone. In addition, another life had been extended without that painful and even life threatening operation.
